As per the official guidelines, to apply for the NID entrance exam (Design Aptitude Test or NID DAT) for the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programme, a student must have passed Class 12 (with 50% or more) or be appearing for it from a recognised board such as CBSE, ICSE, IB, or any board.

Unlike degrees like engineering or medical, NID does not care about your Class 11-12 subject combination. You can appear for NID DAT no matter which stream you’re from science, commerce, humanities/arts, or any other recognised stream. So if you want to study maths, go for it. If you don’t, that’s totally fine too.

That said, if you’re thinking of choosing subjects that are somewhat related to design or could help with NID DAT preparation, subjects like Fine Arts can be a great option. It helps improve your sketching skills and also gives you exposure to Indian art history.

Psychology is another interesting subject you’ll come across concepts like Gestalt theory and colour psychology, which can actually be useful in design thinking.

These are just suggestions, though. In the end, the choice is completely yours. If you want to study science, do it. If humanities excite you more, go for that. Honestly, everything you study ends up helping you in ways you don’t even realise at the time.

So don’t stress too much over subject selection. Pick what genuinely interests you, focus on doing well in your boards, and let your parents proudly show off your marks in front of your relatives and well Sharma ji ofc.
